2015 a AtualEquity analyses on adolescent health and family planning
The proposed work includes two related tasks, each of which will lead to a set of results. 1) Equity analyses of health and empowerment of girls and women. We will attempt to develop an ?index of women?s empowerment?, based on the analyses of existing data from demographic and health surveys in priority geographies (Ethiopia; Indian states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh; and Nigeria, including the foundation?s six priority states and Gombe). This index will then be cross-tabulated against a number of indicators of health, nutrition and services utilization among adolescents and older women. The results will contribute to landscaping analyses to be carried out by the BMGF project team and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) aimed at generating a pro-women and girls policy framework. 2) Analyses of who is not being reached by family planning. Data from recent surveys in approximately 100 low and middle income countries will be analyzed to identify the characteristics of women who are not being reached by modern contraceptives, in terms of place of residence, age, education, wealth and other sociodemographic characteristics. These analyses will be complemented by studying rates of progress in adoption of modern contraceptives by country, and according to subnational characteristics of women. The results will contribute to inform the Foundation?s family planning strategies and investments.
